Caretaker: (Part-Time)

Trent Hills Public Library is seeking a Caretaker to perform quality custodial and maintenance duties at the Hastings Branch Library (formerly known as the Hastings Civic Centre). The successful candidate will perform routine custodial maintenance, cleaning, and basic groundskeeping tasks to ensure a clean, safe and healthy environment at the Hastings Branch.

Qualifications:

  • Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in building maintenance or custodial services would be considered an asset.

Wage Rate: $ 23.11/hour.

Hours of Work: 10 hours per week. Hours are flexible; it is preferred that the majority of cleaning, vacuuming especially, is completed during closed hours. On special occasions/events additional cleaning may be required at the direction of the Library Supervisor.

Base Location(s): Hastings Branch (6 Albert Street East, Hastings)

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interior Maintenance

Daily

  • Daily cleaning of all washrooms

Weekly

  • Vacuuming of all carpets as needed, at least weekly
  • Sweeping and mopping of all floors including stairs, as needed, at least weekly
  • Sanitization of chairs, tabletops and keyboards weekly
  • Sanitization of drop box, door handles, railings, and any high touch point surfaces weekly
  • Collection and removal of garbage/recycling as needed, at least once a week

Twice a month

  • Cleaning of Hastings Hall and Staff Kitchen sinks, stovetops, and counters as needed, at least twice a month

Monthly

  • Dusting interior book shelves and magazine racks monthly
  • Cleaning top of book shelves monthly
  • Wipe library furniture (couch and upholstered chairs) and desk chair legs monthly

Twice a year

  • Cleaning of windows inside and outside as needed, at least twice a year

Once a year

  • Stripping/Waxing of Hastings Hall and Kitchen floors once a year, or as required
  • Help with annual deep clean of Kitchen cupboards
  • Cleaning of ovens as needed, at least once a year

As needed

  • Cleaning of venetian blinds as needed
  • General repair and maintenance including but not limited to light carpentry and painting
  • Removal of any insects inside of florescent light fixtures
  • Replacements of bulbs in fixtures as needed
  • Identify safety hazards and facility deficiencies to the CEO and or the Branch Supervisor
  • Maintenance of Emergency lighting
  • Maintain and clean Hastings Hall tables and chairs
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies
  • Cleaning of refrigerators as needed
  • Refill soap dispensers on dishwasher as needed
  • Refill hand sanitizer in wall hung pumps

Outdoor Maintenance

  • Shoveling of snow and salting of walkways, entrances and exits during winter months
  • Removal of any litter outside of the Library including cigarette butts in ashtrays
  • Weekly testing of generator
